ASTRA is an international community service organization for youth and young adults sponsored and supported by local Altrusa Clubs.
ASTRA is an acronym for:
Ability to know that all of us have special talents to share with others
Service to improve the lives of those less fortunate in the community
Training to develop leadership ability and potential
Responsibility to learn to accept obligations and know the satisfaction of carrying projects through to a successful conclusion
Achievement to experience success; to know that a group can accomplish so much more than any one individual

ASTRA Advisor's Information & Guidelines Toolkit
Policies and Guidelines are set by Altrusa International for all ASTRA Clubs. Each club may adapt guidelines and regulations to meet their specific needs so long as they are not in conflict with Bylaws and Policies of Altrusa International, Inc.
Understand that there will be different requirements for middle school and high school clubs and at the college level you will be working with young adults who will not be subject to rules and regulations for minors. Also, at the college level your club will probably be considered a campus club and will need a set of Bylaws in compliance with that specific college’s requirements. So once again be aware that documents and forms may be edited to fit the specific needs of each ASTRA Club.

ASTRA Clubs are an important part of not only the sponsoring Altrusa Club but also an important component of each District as well as the International Organization. Be sure to include ASTRA members in Altrusa Club service projects, fundraisers, club meetings, celebrations and parties as well as District Conferences and International Conventions. Encourage the ASTRA Clubs to submit projects for the ASTRA Service Award and for those eligible members to submit scholarship applications. Keep in mind that many of these young members are the Altrusa members of the future.
If your Altrusa Club is thinking about sponsoring and supporting an ASTRA Club the items listed below will help get your started. There are samples and forms provided to make the Chartering process for your ASTRA Club easy and efficient. Forms and documents can be edited to meet the specific needs for your club.
